Equipment Fall Protection Requirement
The Defence Science Technology Group needed a solution to safely arrest the fall of a 2m x 0.5m, 35kg enclosure cover dropped from 3.5-4m. The cover, which could rotate end over end during the fall, must be caught gently, without damage and minimal rebound.
Solution
After evaluating various options, a 4m x 6m crash mat was selected as the best fall protection solution. The size allowed for potential inaccuracies in the fall path, providing a generous surface area to ensure the cover landed softly. The mat’s composition ensured a bounce-free landing, which is critical for protecting the equipment. Additionally, a bubble cover was placed over the mat to guarantee zero rebound upon impact, further ensuring the safety of the equipment.
Results
The crash mat and bubble cover combination effectively met the Defence Science Technology Group’s needs, providing a safe and reliable method for catching the falling enclosure cover without causing damage. The solution ensured that the equipment could be used for further testing without deterioration.
