Debris and equipment fall protection systems are designed to protect personnel and infrastructure from injury or damage caused by falling debris, tools and equipment when workers are below.
Overhead and fall protection
- Set up before the work is performed, debris fall protection systems typically consist of an air-filled blocking system with a netting or specialized surface preparation that effectively catches or diverts falling debris or tools.
- Inflation decks are often used to softly catch products during the maintenance and testing process. Nose cones and cladding replacement used in space and defence programs would be scenarios where equipment fall protection would be used.

Three systems to protect workers from falling debris and protect tools and equipment
Debris Netting: An open-mesh netting supported by an inflatable frame to catch and contain falling debris. It is often used on construction sites, in hoppers and ductwork, refractory clad stacks and other work areas where debris may fall from heights.
Inflatable cushions: These devices create a platform or surface in square-section ducts, boilers or refractories to catch falling refractories when workers are servicing heat exchangers below.
Blocking balloons: Large, inflatable air-filled spherical balloons or cushions designed to catch and contain falling debris. Catch balloons are used on ductwork or chutes where heavy debris and tools may fall from high heights when work or maintenance occurs overhead.
