Winslow Construction manages the development of the Maplestone Wetlands. Controlling water levels is crucial for the proper functioning of the ponds. The system uses sumps to regulate water flow and control levels between different elevations. A sump collects drainage and acts as a control point for water transfer.
Challenge
A critical drainage pipe connecting a sump to a lower pond needed repair, and repairing the pipe required complete isolation of the water flow from the higher pond. The pipe’s entry point was submerged 1.5 metres underwater. Winslow Construction required a fast, reliable method for flow stoppage. They sought Giant Inflatables Industrial’s expertise for a precise, high-pressure isolation solution, avoiding the need to drain the pond.
Specialised Solution
Giant Inflatables Industrial supplied a 750 mm high-pressure isolation plug, designed to seal pipes under high pressure.
Results
First, a backhoe dredged the pond floor to clear the area, providing access to the submerged pipe entry. A commercial diver, using a hookah diving system, then positioned and inserted the high-pressure plug into the pipe. The 750 mm high-pressure isolation plug inflated successfully, creating a complete seal and instantly stopping the water flow. This reliable solution allowed Winslow Construction to perform the necessary pipe repair safely and efficiently.
